The Week That Changes Everything
This particular weekend of the Liturgical Year is one which calls us very clearly to remember why Jesus Christ matters. It is a moment to pause and reflect upon whether this profound moment in time continues to have an impact upon each of our lives, and upon the world today. If it doesn’t, why would we bother? If it does, it changes everything!
Jesus enters Jerusalem, as Prince of Peace to shouts and cries of ‘Hosanna!’, and days later he is hunted down, humiliated, abused, tortured, abandoned and physically broken. There could not be two more disparate images of the one man, and yet both speak to a deep and abiding love for all people.
It is easy to romanticise love. Yet, the love of God is at its most profound in a man of peace entering a place of danger, and a man willing to experience immense trauma for us – for you, for me, for the whole of creation. His love changes all that exists. His love reaches out to each one of us, imploring us to come and follow him; to live in his loving embrace; and to journey forward loving others simply because we are so deeply loved.
We love because God first loved us. This is what we are called to remember and give thanks for during this significant week. Let us enter this week seeking to know the God of love so completely that we are changed forever.
